We’re Not in K-Anne-sas Anymore

ANNE HATHAWAYSo, apparently the Weinstein Company has signed Anne Hathaway to play Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic, Get Happy. I like Anne, but I don’t know about this.

judy1I suppose there’s a facial resemblance, but Judy was a tiny little thing, while Anne is quite the tall drink of water. Then there’s the matter of the singing. Will Anne attempt it, or will she lip sync? We all know Joaquin Phoenix did a great job singing Johnny Cash, but can Anne do this:

Or this:

Or this:

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. Joaquin Phoenix was SUCH a stretch for Johnny Cash and yet he did such an amazing job. So, I guess I’m willing to give Anne Hathaway a chance to play Judy Garland. On the other hand, there is the matter of Beyonce and Etta James, which was terrible. So, it could go either way.

It’s not just the voice, Judy Garland was a complicated, troubled soul. If she has good material, and a good director, this could really take her career to a new level. I’m curious to see what happens w/the project!

  4. I think this could very well win her an Oscar: She’s already on the Academy radar, it’s a biopic, and she sings. Oscar folk love that stuff.

On the other hand, it could also be the next Australia. No way to know.

  5. i like anne and all fashionwise and i love what she says in interviews, but, and i wish this wasn’t true, whenever i see her in a movie, i just can’t stand her. so i dont know. i know this is a personal issue.

and judy garland’s voice is so distinct and unlike anne’s show-tuney. i mean i know judy garland sang show tunesque songs, but her voice is very not like anyone else’s.

and the joaguin reference brought to mind a funny scenario: if she does land this, do we see unkempt hair and chewing gum in her future?
